Our Global Value Chain support allows your business to most appropriately leverage your current business activities to meet your target market conditions. This ultimately enables your business to maximise it's international market penetration, spreads risk and increases your overall global competitiveness.
The SAS and assistance with global value chain service is delivered through a variety of public sector, Government and private sector partners. The service is tailored to client need and each project involves selecting the optimum combination of market and product-specific delivery partners to achieve the required result for the customer.
The Strategic Alliance Service provides practical assistance to help companies in the following areas:
- Manufacture under Licence (MUL)
- Overseas Joint Venture (JV)
- Overseas Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)
The service covers both manufacturing and service sector companies, principally for emerging markets.
Projects undertaken to date have concentrated on the automotive, aerospace oil and gas, textiles and environment sectors. Particular expertise has been developed by focusing on emerging economies, including India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey and Central & Eastern Europe.
Licensing
Licensing, where a company provides technology for a fee or royalty, is a relatively low cost method of international co-operation. Emerging economies are also increasingly interested in technology transfer to jump any product generation gap between products available locally and those from more developed markets.
Assistance can include assessment of the suitability of products for licensing, legal agreements (particularly restrictions on the partner on unauthorised use of the technology) and an implementation plan.
Joint Ventures
Joint Ventures are an expanding area of strategic alliance in international business. The main advantages are a reduction in inter-company contracting/transaction costs, economies of scale in administration, market access, reduced commercial risk and improved ability to react to technological or market change. In some areas, due to local legislation, a joint venture may be the only practical method of entering a potentially attractive market.
Assistance includes use of a checklist and mentoring on the practicalities of planning, implementing, and successful operation of overseas joint ventures.
