The UK is a world leader in the manufacture and supply of learning resources and English language training. The UK is highly respected for the work it does within the field of education and has a number of leading experts within the Special Educational Needs (SEN) arena.
The education and skills export sector earns the UK around £28 billion a year, compared to Automotive (£20 billion), Financial Services (£19 billion) and Healthcare (£14 billion). Around 70 percent of this comes from the sale of education and training services; the balance is made up from broadcasting, publishing and sales of education equipment. The total impact of direct spending by international students is estimated at £5.5 billion annually.
The North West is incredibly fortunate that it has a number of universities that are recognised throughout the world. They provide leading edge teaching in a modern learning environment. UKTI has excellent links and relationships with many of these universities, which it is committed to developing further.
UK universities are fundamental to the development of the knowledge economy which including sectors such as life sciences, advanced engineering and ICT, and it is imperative that that this continues. UK universities are the most advanced learning resources which are vital to attract overseas students.
